Dermaplaning for Peach Fuzz Removal

Dermaplaning is an exfoliating treatment that provides an alternative to chemical peels or microdermabrasion. It is a good choice for anyone who has fine facial hairs (peach fuzz) and extremely sensitive skin. Dermaplaning is also a good option for patients who are pregnant or nursing who want a deep exfoliation, but are not allowed to use peeling agents on their skin because of the risk that the chemicals will be absorbed into the blood stream and may be transferred to the fetus or the infant.  

Dermaplaning for Smooth Skin

The dermaplaning treatment is done by our experienced nurse who uses a blade to gently exfoliate the outer layer of dead skin cells and remove the fine facial hairs commonly known as "peach fuzz". A noticeable improvement is immediate with a smoother texture and a fresh skin appearance. The procedure is often followed with a very gentle lactic acid application. 

Dermaplaning

Hair returns slowly over a period of a few weeks, but it will not become coarser because of the treatment. As long as the hair is fine vellus hair, it will grow back at the same rate and texture as before the treatment. Dermaplaning can be performed every 3-4 weeks when the vellus hair starts to grow back.

The only skin that shouldn’t be treated with dermaplaning is skin with bad acne or skin that is very acne-prone. The oil from the sebaceous glands needs to travel up and connect with the vellous hair in order for it to be excreted.  If the hair is removed and the oil builds up, the glands are obstructed and cause more breakouts.

There is no downtime associated with this procedure. Use of a proper moisturizer and sunscreen after the procedure is of utmost important to optimize the treatment and reduce the chance of hyperpigmentation.
