Treat Underarm Hyperhidrosis with MiraDry in Connecticut

Hyperhidrosis is defined as excessive sweating.  The areas that are the most annoying and embarrassing are the underarms and palms of the hands.  MiraDry is a device that is FDA approved to treat underarm sweating.  It has been studied since 2010 and permanently reduces underarm sweating by about 80% in as little as one treatment.  Dr. Jandali is the first and only plastic surgeon in Connecticut offering Miradry for treatment of underarm sweating.  Treatments are performed in our Fairfield County office and take about an hour to perform.  MiraDry is non-surgical, safe, and effective, with almost no downtime.

Stop Using Underarm Sweat Pads

Do you buy underarm sweat pads to help absorb moisture in your armpits?  These pads are super-absorbent and can be placed under the arm to help absorb excess sweat.  What a nuisance to stick them on and change them when they are wet!  Get MiraDry and never buy sweat pads again.

Drysol vs MiraDry for Excessive Sweating

Over the counter antiperspirants decrease sweat production in the underarms by about 20%.  This is not enough for people with hyperhidrosis.  A prescription topical medication called Drysol is often prescribed, even though it still only reduces sweating by about 30-40%.  This prescription-strength antiperspirant contains aluminum chloride particles which are clog and block the sweat glands in the skin.  Drysol frequently causes skin tingling, itching, and irritation.  Many people stop using Drysol for these reasons.  With MiraDry, you can end the annoying irritation and constant absorption of chemicals in Drysol.

Botox vs MiraDry for Excessive Sweating

Botox is FDA approved for axillary hyperhidrosis (severe underarm sweating).  Botox needs to be injected in about 20-30 spots in each underarm in order to treat the entire sweat-producing area.   It is usually performed by a dermatologist and is often paid for out of pocket, costing anywhere from $900-$1500 for each treatment.  For those that get it covered by insurance, each treatment usually still costs a few hundred dollars in deductible and co-insurance.  Further, studies show that Botox for underarm sweating only lasts about 6-10 months, with the average being 7-8 months. Compared to Botox, MiraDry is permanent, requires fewer needle injections, is usually a one time treatment, and costs about the same as two Botox treatments.  So for patients who get Botox for underarm sweating, it definitely makes financial sense to get MiraDry.

MiraDry for Excessive Sweating of the Palms

Although it hasn’t been approved yet, Miramar Labs (the company that makes MiraDry) is working on the protocols and FDA approval for treatment of palm sweating.  This is probably coming in 2016, so stay tuned!  Say goodbye to embarrassing moist and clammy hands!
