Mommy Makeover in Connecticut
What is a Mommy Makeover?
A “mommy makeover” is a combination of cosmetic procedures performed on women after their childbearing years are over. Mommy makeovers are frequently performed at our Fairfield County plastic surgery practice. It usually involves a combination of breast and abdominal surgery. The breast surgery is usually an augmentation to restore volume that was lost from pregnancy and breastfeeding. It can also include a mastopexy, or breast lift, which is performed to lift the breasts and make them perky again like they were before pregnancy. The abdominal surgeries usually include a tummy tuck (abdominoplasty), rectus diastasis repair, and liposuction to restore a smooth and flat contour to the abdomen and remove any extra skin and stretch marks.
How Common are Mommy Makeovers?
The American Society of Plastic Surgeon releases annual statistics and compares the statistics to those ten years before. In 2011, women had nearly 116,000 tummy tucks, up 85% since 2000. They also had almost 91,000 breasts lifts and 307,000 breast augmentations, up 72% and 45% respectively. These combinations of procedures make up “mommy makeover” procedures.
Today, women are less inhibited to acknowledge that they wish to return to the youthful body they had before pregnancy. Often, diet and exercise alone just can’t restore the shape of the abdomen or the perkiness of the breasts. These procedures can be combined together in one surgery. This saves on trips to the operating room, anesthesia, recovery time, and cost.
Mommy Makeover Scars
When Dr. Jandali performs a mommy makeover in Connecticut, he keeps the scars well hidden underneath the bra and underwear so that they are not seen while wearing a bikini. Scars always fade with time and Dr. Jandali uses special suturing techniques to keep tension off of the scars, so that they heal as fine lines and do not become widened. The scars on the breasts range from a short scar in the fold under the breast (for a breast augmentation only) to a scar around the nipple and down to the fold (for a breast lift). Mommy makeover scars on the abdomen can range from invisible small scars from liposuction to a tummy tuck scar that is like a long C-section scar and is hidden low beneath the underwear.
Mommy Makeover Recovery
Dr. Jandali performs mommy makeover procedures in Connecticut as outpatient surgery. This allows patients to recovery in the comfort of their own home. He will often see the patient the morning after surgery to evaluate the surgical sites. Patients should be up and walking around even the night after surgery. Dr. Jandali prescribes pain medicine and a muscle relaxant that helps patients stay comfortable after surgery. Dr. Jandali always prescribes an anti-nausea medicine just in case there is any nausea after anesthesia. Patients usually can drive and return to work 1-2 weeks after surgery. Exercise at the gym can be resumed about 6-8 weeks after a mommy makeover.
